best rip

Lets try and compile a list of rips and who is actually happy with their rip outputting to the seiko printer.

I like flexisignpro. My designer prefers it for its production manager. It allows you to marque exactly what you want to print and it displays in high res.

I have tried both Onyx and Wasatch.  It seems wasatch is good for people who don't want to mess with profiling and custom created media, but Onyx is better for tweaking & custom profiles.  I took the GIA (www.graphintel.com) course on Onyx and I just can't use anything else.  I love it.

I tried onxy and found it to technical and clumsy. I also had big issues with size accuracy.  Onyx reps unable to find solution. Flexi is very easy to use... out of the box. But its screening technologies are weak. TO much noise in their rip output. Hard sometimes to get a solid color look. Hopefully 7.6 will address some of these problems. Goinig to try Ergosoft PosterPrint next. But Onxy didn't cut it for me.

I have used Onyx when it was Image View an Wasatch when it was beta and for a few years after beta it is just over the past few years I have used Flexi. All are great programs with their pros and cons however for being able to R&D new materials to stay on cutting edge imaging good color output Onyx is tops to me with the ability to create new profiles and teak existing ones along with one of the longest printer support list I have seen. Flexi however is a sign persons dream easy to use and learn combined with the ability to deliver fabrication drawings output and that production manager. It is a signshops work horse for signs. The only thing i found it lacking was its color management which is needed for digital printing however the main thing I believe it sells for is vinyl signs and fabrication purposes so I feel given the quality of the program that some day soon it will give Onyx a run for its money in the color profile arena. For now I think I will just keep using both.

i've seen a few in action and they all seem to be more than adequate. i find that it's really a personal decision to how you've worked in the past and historically what you've always used. the main issue that i find is how quickly the bugs are eradictaed from the live software, because all rips have them somewhere. for this i've found colorgate to be very good, colours are great, service fantastic, but it can be a bit slow, butit is getting quicker. onyx is also up there, but the support can be a bit slow to say the least

All i can say that running different machines on different rips i find that I really enjoy PhotoPrint a lot, but it seems to be quite vulnerable and i find Caldera to be even better. It's easy to use, even easier than PhotoPrint, the profiling part is very powerful and i like it better than the one of PhotoPrint. Caldera seems also very stable, maybe due to the fact that it's Linux based. It's blazing fast. Onyx... well, we have Onyx too and i believe that the same machine (not Seiko) running PhotoPrint and Onyx, is just better off running PhotoPrint. We're speaking of course about the most basic versions. I don't like Colorburst too, seems a bit awkward and complicated at the first sight, while in Caldera you barely need to learn, it's just so logical, plus it has the Photoshop way of floating windows we all know so well ;)

Caldera, caldera, caldera....
Maybe because it's really fast, stable and that you can do things you did'nt thought it was possible to do or just because it's a french company and i'm french too , you know how are "froggies"...

We have been using PhotoPrint Server for years and are pretty pleased with it. The upgrades seem to be well developed - new features that really do add productivity. It's fast and seems versatile.

I thought Onyx would be better and was happy to purchase it when we bought the Seiko. The preview image render took forever and the rip times were much, much longer. I called Onyx and tried to see if it was just a setting but they pretty much confirmed that it wouldn't get any faster.

RIP software is pretty subjective - I've seen them all work pretty well.
