I heard a rumor that HP was set to begin OEMing the Seiko CP in much the same way that Oce has done. Has anyone else heard of this? (To me this seems highly unlikely in light of HP's acquisition of Scitex Vision.) Bob
As I mentioned on this site a month ago (only a rumor at that time), HP and Seiko have announced that Seiko will stop marketing solvent printers in 2006, and hand off sales and marketing to HP. Here is the link:
Seiko will still be involved in support for the Seiko branded machines, but all new sales, consumables, and service for the HP branded units will come from HP.
hard to say, as hp never have a clear agenda. it will certainly help seiko as i think they are in it to help fund new kit, but as far as costs go who knows. the one thing i do hope is that the seiko service (sometimesa bit dodgy) does not go the hp way, which averages neaere to 2 weeks for a 100% fix; not good however you look at it.
we'll just have to wait and see in early 2006 what they will be doing, but for us customers hopefully it will just make seiko produce even better printers
