HELP! Seiko or Mimaki

sorry, im new to this whole forum thing and this post might be in the wrong location.

i just returned from the atlantic city sign show where i was trying to compare the seiko cp64s and the mimaki jv3.  of course each rep thought that their printer was the best, whodda thought, ergo i didnt get much helpful information about either.  i am hoping that i might get some helpful information from an unbiased crowd of professionals.

i have been looking through the posts already and found some helpful info and it is much appreciated.  personally from what i witnessed in both printing output quality and physically examining the machine itself, the seiko seems to be the better machine.  but my main concern is the cost difference and if its actually worth the difference to go with the seiko.  the show price for the printer and the plotter was $39,000 for the seiko and $29,000 for the mimaki.  thats a pretty big price difference, can it be justified?  or maybe the better question is can these two machines even be compared with each other, i mean can one compare a bmw with a ford.  or if you had $40,000 dollars to spend on one printer which one would you choose.

im not looking for any specific answer, just anything anyone can tell me in general about either or both printers.  i just dont want to make a mistake here, especially with this amont of money.  thanks.

hiya pearlyman, and welcome to the forum.

from my experience using both printers, there's really no problem choosing the best unit. the seiko is by far the better machine all round. it's faster, with as good as quality and easier to use (my opinon i said). the only thing it has against it is firstly the price and secondly the ink cost. the jv3 wipes the floor with it cheap ink, but remember the seiko uses less ink overall therefore that arguement is slightly negated.

i would ask yourself the question: what am i going to do with it?

function addEmote(name) {
if(htmlAreaEnabled) {
editor_insertHTML('comment', ':'+name+':');
}
else {
document.commentForm.comment.value = document.commentForm.comment.value + ':'+name+':';
}
}

if you're looking for a printer to run once or twice a week, want good quality images, and are not worried about speed, then go fo rthe jv3. if you want a true production machine, running throughout the week, with great quality and fantastic density and color vibrancy, then the seiko is the one for you.
