Went to the Melbourne launch of the HP9000 on Wednesday. Here's a couple of notes.
In comparison with the 64S, it looks like a duck, quacks like a duck and even smells like a duck. It's a different colour to the 64S and the terminology is different in the menus but seems exactly the same.
Differences are: Ink cartridges ever so slightly different, but basically the same as the 64S. Though different enough not to be interchangeable. They claim the makeup of the ink is different and gets a better result than the 64S, but put under a spectraphotometer they pretty much seem the same. They even smell the same.
Something that does make a difference is the new firmware. It now has a 540 x 720 4 pass mode like the 100S, but the new firmware has altered somehow the firing of the heads to let it get a lot smoother print. I was quite astounded at the lines I couldn't see. I'm not sure my 64S ever printed like that.
Anyway, it seems good value, but the ink costs are back up to their 64S launch price of around AUD$580 a litre.
